responding to social issues in book

I am reading the Lord of The Ring and i am responding to the question of who has the power and how is it shown.i feel that in the Lord of The Rings the power is shown plainly as belonging to the enemy Souron. the reason i think they gave him the power is to make the book more interesting because if the enemy didn't have the power then it would be to difficult for the protagonist.
The power is given to the enemy to show how even against the odds you can overcome most anything with the help of your  friends. infact if you think about it the whole book can be a analogy for somebodies fight to get over drugs (the ring being the drugs and Frodo the junky and the enemy being obstacles).
that is why i feel Tolkien made the power be obviously on the side of the enemy it not only makes for a better book but it also makes for a better lesson learned in the end.
