drummer boy of shiloh

      The theme of "The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh" by Ray Bradbury is every body matters. In the story Joby is a drummer boy in the army at the battle of Shiloh. He feels unimportant because he has neither a weapon nor a form of defense.
       In the beginning of the story Joby is all alone on the floor listening to the soldiers talk. About a third of the way through the story the General stumbles upon Joby. The General then reassures Joby that he is after himself the most essential part of the army. The general also told joby that it was okay to feel bad before a battle even he had cried just before encountering Joby.
        The General told Joby he was important because without him the foot soldiers couldn't hear orders or march properly and without them the war couldn't be fought in the first place. Joby is reassured by this and is committed to doing a good job while drumming during the battle he goes to sleep with a clear mind.
      After the conversation Joby is feeling good and fully realizes his importance.  Many people have either seen or been part of something in which one person made all the difference. Sometimes it was a important moment in thier life some times it was a side note. That is why I think that the theme is everyone matters.
